Pet Portrait Painting Commission Process (Yes, That Includes Cows!)

I often get asked if I do commissions.  The answer is yes! I love to capture a special member of your herd or pet on canvas so you can enjoy them for years to come.  If you like my painting style, we are a good fit to work together! Of course, you have input on your piece, but I'm most confident painting in my style - it's how I create my best work for you.

So, How does the commission process work?

  1. The commission process begins with someone reaching out and asking. In the future I will add a form to my website. But for now, if you are interested, shoot me an email or a message on social media, ideally with a reference photo. About that reference photo - it doesn’t have to be perfect. I like photos that capture an animal's expression how you'd like it painted.  It’s best if it’s clear and shows the detail of your animal well.  If it doesn’t, I can usually piece it together from other photos.  Background and other details are not as important - I can easily edit those details to enhance the painting.

  2. Secondly, I’ll give you price quotes for various sizes.  If you don’t have a size in mind, I can suggest canvas ratios that suit the painting the best. We also ensure our timelines align as sometimes I'm booking far in advance.

  3. Once you choose a size, I require a 30% non-refundable deposit to begin painting. I will also send you a short contract.

  4. Next, I’ll send you a mock-up of your painting.  I create the mock-up on my iPad using the photo you sent me.  This gives you an idea of what the painting will look like with the colours and cropping we discussed.

  5. Then I go to work creating your special piece - yay!  Once it’s 95% finished, I send you a few images.  This is your opportunity to request minor changes.

  6. I complete the remaining 5% of the painting!  I will send you more photos!  Then we patiently (or not so patiently!) wait a few weeks for it to dry.

  7. Once it's dry and varnished, the remaining 70% of the price is due. We schedule a pick-up or arrange shipping.

  8. You hang your custom, original, special-to-you, painting in a place where you can enjoy it daily!
